The end of Physics!

So I'm pretty much done with two of my classes.  One of which includes PHYSICS!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO! The only thing I have to do now in that class is present the project that I built.  And I don't think its going to be a very stressful presentation hopefully more of a chill/casual presentation.  But we had our last test last Friday and it wasn't that bad other than the fill in the blank, which is always hard of these tests.  The best part is that we don't have a final exam in there!  So the struggles of being in physics is almost over!!!!!!
Saturday night I went to a party with John and we camped out.  It was kind of a gross night because of the rain but thankfully it didn't down pour the entire time.  A girl that I graduated was there and it was pretty nice to see her because I haven't seen her since high school. Anyways we didn't really do much but sit by the fire and listen to one of their friends sing and play the guitar.  He was really good!  Well the land that we were on had a camper in it and this was where my friend and I would go use the bathroom.  So I ended up falling out of this camper and now I have these huge bruises on my legs.  Thankfully no one was around other than Hassie, who laughed at me for about ten minutes.  So it was a great night.
So this weekend my cousin, Tommy, came into town!  He is in the Air force so we don't get to see him that often. So Friday night me, him, my sister, and Sydney went to the little bar that is in my hometown. Well I ended up being the DD for my sister because she was no where near capable of driving.  My sister is hilarious when she drinks, but she is also one of those people who won't stop talking when they drink lol.  Anyways it took us like an hour to get her in the car to leave from the bar because she wouldn't stop talking to people.  Then once we finally got her in the car we figured out that she had accidentally picked up some random persons phone.  It was kind of embarrassed but really funny at the same time!

So this weekend I'm going to be camping out!!!! My boyfriend's brother is throwing what he likes to call a "Stump Farm party" haha.  Pretty much they go camping out on this land that has a small pond and cabin on it.  The main point in this event is that they have skeet shooting competitions.  They had one back in November and it was so much fun.  They also build a huge bonfire and get one of their close friends to play live music.  I'm actually pretty curious to see how it's going to turn out because Joel, John's brother, has invited all of these girls who he is very interested in talking to.  Like he's invited about four of these girls who like him and I doubt they know about each other.  Pretty much he's a player I suppose. But I'm hoping nothing too dramatic happens.  Also this weekend is Merlefest, so I may be going to that also to see maybe Marshal Tucker band or the Avett Brothers.

Over the weekend

This past weekend John and I went to one of my best friends lake house!  We went there with a few of our friends and went fishing.  I wish I would have taken a picture of this house and the lake because it is seriously super gorgeous.  Well one of the people who went with us was my cousin, Seger.  He is probably one of the funnest people that I know and he also loves beer more than anyone that I know.  Pretty much anytime I see him he has a beer in his hand.  My sister also went with us, which was great because I don't get to spend much quality time with her anymore since she's been working at the hospital in Wilkesboro as a nurse.  John and I had another fishing competition, but this time he actually beat me.  He caught like 30 fish and I caught like 2.  But I only fished for about thirty minutes and he fished for about two hours.  But it was truly a really relaxing day of just being outside.

Getting a new roommate

So this year my roommate for two years is graduating, which means I will have to get a new roommate.  I've heard so many stories about how people get horrible roommates and I mean there's pretty much nothing you can do about it because they're paying the same amount of money to live in the apartment.  Anyways I'm pretty nervous about it.  I'm being assigned a random roommate and I'm hoping that she'll be cool and not crazy.  I've been thinking about getting a job up here in Boone so that I won't have so much time on my hands.  I feel like I have too much time to watch Netflix.  Thankfully the semester is almost over, although I'll be attending summer school, but I've heard that summer classes are so much better than fall or spring classes.

Easter Festivities

So I am a 22 year old that still receives Easter baskets.  My mother LOVES to make my siblings and I Easter baskets every year.  She has always done it and it just has been something that she thoroughly enjoys to do.  In addition to making her children one she also makes our significant others one.  So since this was mine and Johns first Easter together she made him one also.  It was hilarious because she gave him about 3 pounds of candy and he thinks it's funny that I still receive Easter baskets. Anyways before that I had attended church and afterwards I went over to John's Mother's house to eat lunch.  John has a small family that consists of about 6 people and this is how it has been every time I have eaten with his family.  My family however, is very large or at least a medium sized family.  We had about 25 people come over and eat with us at dinner.  I always feel like it's a shocking experience for new people who decide to come around my family.  Because I might as well admit that they can be a bit crazy especially when alcohol is involved.  So I think that John feels a bit on edge when he comes to family events hahaha.
So today I didn't feel well so I skipped both of my classes and slept in! Around 1 I decided to try and do things around the apartment, which pretty much involved washing clothes.  I did go out to get groceries and left my car lights on, so my battery was dead once I got back out to my car.  Anyways I keep thinking how fast this semester has flown by.  I believe we only have like three weeks left.  I am very excited to be done with physics!!!! WOOOHOOO!!  We have one more test in there and I finished my final project last week! I decided to make an amplifier for my guitar and I'm pretty excited about trying it out.  I have to buy some kind of adapter for it before I can hook it up to my guitar.  I for some reason really like soldering. I guess because it's better than doing the labs that we use to have to do for the first half of the semester.

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

I'm sure all of you have been thinking about applying to grad school next semester.  I don't know about any of y'all, but I'm nervous.  It's just nerve wrecking because what if you don't get in?  It's kind of like you went four or more years in college to hopefully become what your major is and pretty much not getting into graduate school prevents you from becoming that.  It just sucks that we can't really do anything with our 4 year degree.  It's scary to think about what I'll be doing a year from now and where I'll be.  I really don't want to be too far away from home, but I'm going to go where I can get into school.  Another thing that is on my mind about next year is that my current roommate is graduating, so therefore I will be getting a new roommate.  They'll be random and I'll be living with someone I don't know, which is kind of weird.  Hopefully they'll be cool and not psycho.

An Update on Physics Class

So surprisingly physics has gotten a little better or at least the lab portion has.  We are now over half way through the semester and we have started on our final projects.  For the past couple of weeks we have been practicing soldering in lab.  And honestly I find it very entertaining and cool.  Last week we made these circuit boards that ended up making these two lights flash.  Which I guess that doesn't sound like much fun, but I enjoyed it.  I decided to build an amplifier for my final project, which I get to start building tomorrow!!!!! I am super excited!  As for the actually class part....it's going ok.  I've gotten to the point where I'm just ready to be done!  Pretty much the 2200 word paper we had to do for our midterm did me in.  It was the hardest, most annoying paper I have ever had to write.  But hey at least there is only 5 more weeks left and then I'll never have to worry about physics ever again!

The Beer festival

I don't know if any of y'all have ever been to a beer festival or not, but it was kind of like the wine festival except with beer.  So I don't like beer at all.  The only reason I decided to go was because my boyfriend and his friends wanted to.  The good thing about this event was that they gave us these cute little wine glasses.. I'm not sure of the formal name for them, but they looked like midget wine glasses.  Well none of the beer at this festival was under 10% alcohol!!! And they even had some that was 18%..WHAT?!?!  So it was disgusting, but John seemed to like it so I guess it worked out for him.  But really even with the gross beer I had a really good time even though it was super cold and windy.

Asheville for the Weekend

This weekend John and I are going to Asheville.  We are going to visit his best friend, which is always interesting.  On Saturday we're going to a Beer festival, which is suppose to be kinda like the wine festival, but instead of it being shots of wine it will be shots of beer.   I'm not really sure how I feel about this because I'm not really a beer person, but I think if it's in shots I may can handle it.  I'm pretty much going for the entertainment of John getting drunk.  He's very funny when he drinks.  He likes to dance and sing...it's hilarious.  Anyways so hopefully this will be a pretty fun weekend!  Maybe next week's posts will have some pictures attached so y'all can see my experience.  Maybe even a video of John dancing.  We'll see how it goes.

The Turtle Trot...

So I guess I'll talk a little bit about the 5K race that took place this past Saturday.  Well Ivy and I decided to do this for extra credit for Dalton's class...why I didn't just do the Comeback Shack fundraisers I don't know.  A few years ago I decided to do a 5K run in my hometown, which is relatively flat land or at least flat on the path they chose to do the race on.  So before I ran at this Turtle Trot race I had pictured the run to be on flat ground...didn't even think about how Boone really isn't flat and has a lot of hills.  So as soon as we start the race we are going up hill.  The first hill wasn't that bad, but still it sucked!  Then for some reason they decided to choose a path at the end of the race that had these two giant hills.  The first one I could still somewhat run up, but the other one I didn't even think about trying.  Anyways I guess the race went good overall.  I did a lot better than what I had expected to do and we weren't the last people to finish!

My Spring Break

Well due to the week gap we had of not having to post blogs...I have totally forgot about them.  So I figured I would write a little about my spring break.  I did absolutely nothing over spring break! I did go home and see my family, but other than that I really didn't have anything eventful happen.  I did however go to Virginia to a place called "Ararat", which sounds like it would be in a desert or just somewhere kinda creepy.  I went with my boyfriend, who has a friend that has a "lake house".  John likes to call it a lake house, but in reality it is a pond, but I guess lake house sounds cooler.  So we get there and his friend has these two giant, beautiful peacocks and a lot of chickens, which is pretty awesome because I love chickens!!! So after messing around with them for a little while we decided to go fishing.  Well John had this thought in his head that I wouldn't be good at fishing I guess mainly because I'm a woman....he's dumb.  Anyways I ended up catching two bass while John on the other hand didn't catch any!!!!! It was great!

My Friend the Heartbreaker

So my best friend Rachel, who I grew up with, is a little bit of a heartbreaker.  I mean I feel sorry for the guys, but it is quite funny because it's so unbelievable how she acts. Now Rachel is one of those girls who like guys who play "hard to get" or pretty much treat her like crap! I guess you could say she likes the challenge and the chase. Well she's been dating this guy for about 4 months this time around...the first time she dated him I think maybe they dated for about 2 or 3 months. She has a record of dating these guys and really liking them and just one week she won't like them anymore, so she dumps them. So she dated her recent boyfriend over the summer and once school started back she decided it was time to break up with him. So she did and he was pretty upset over it because he is a nice guy and he truly cares about her. And then she goes about 2 months without even mentioning his name or anything about him and then she just suddenly wants to get back together with him. I don't know what the deal is. So they get back together and she's still dating him right now. On Sunday, she calls me and is talking about how he gets on her nerves and about how she's thinking about breaking up with him. Like seriously two weeks ago she was telling me how happy she was with him. I don't know...maybe she'll change her mind and start liking him again. Anyways it cracks me up..which might be a mean thing to say, but I just can't help it! She's entertaining with how she does her men!

Activities Over the Weekend

This weekend I didn't do anything that was super exciting. But I did stay up in Boone, which was the first time in about a month. I normally go home on the weekends since my hometown is pretty close to Boone.  I'm very close to my family so I love seeing them on the weekends, plus my boyfriend lives in my hometown as well. Anyways, so I stuck it out up here this weekend and went and hung out with one of my friends I graduated high school with. His name is Logan and I've known him practically my whole life. Now he is a little bit of a partier and I don't mind partying on the weekends, but he's one of those people who like to party the majority of the week and I just can't do that and still concentrate on school. So Friday night he took me to a party that took place up at the Cottages. We got there about 10:00, so it was kind of early, but he was close with the people who were throwing the party. Well at about 12:00, people started getting crazy hahaha. There was these two guys that were dominating in beer pong and well they were just way to into it. It was interesting..I suppose. On Saturday my boyfriend came up here to visit me and we went and ate at The Local, which was a first time for me. The food was actually pretty good and they had a band playing so it was nice. So it was a pretty good weekend altogether!

MIDTERM WEEK...DUN DUN DUN!!!!!

I'm sure that everyone is freaking out about this week due to the excessive amount of tests and assignments that are due. But just think about how once this week is over it'll be spring break!!!!!  So right now I am sitting in my bed studying for our test in Dalton's class tomorrow. Honestly I somewhat wish she would have kept it as a take home test..that would have been great! But since she did not...I'll be studying for most of the night and probably tomorrow morning as well. Also I have like a 5 page paper due in physics this week and it's suppose to be on amplifiers. I don't know ANYTHING  about amplifiers other than that they amplify things...like my guitar. But hey after this week I'll be half way done with physics!!! Just knowing that brings joy to my heart!!

Procrastination

So I'm a bit of a procrastinator.  I must say it is not my best quality.  My main subject that I enjoy doing this in the most is physics..dun dun dunnn. So he assigns us homework each week. Each of which consist of about 15-17 questions. Well the assignments take a while to do...at least for me. Mainly because I don't know what I'm doing most of the time. So I hate them and I procrastinate for that very reason. And to add on last week are physics lab was complete hell!!!! I mainly think that it was horrible because it was the day that we had to go to school and it started bizzarding (not a word) outside. Also it was suppose to be an easy lab, but for some reason my group and I are just not physics oriented enough to quickly do these labs. So there's my update on physics!!!! Wooohooo! yay a for physics!

rambling

Well I'm pretty stressed over that literature paper due today. Thank God I have finally finished most of it. Honestly I've never been the best writer, so hopefully this class will help me improve. This post is pretty much going to be a ramble about random things, because I don't know what to talk about! I think I'll ramble about school for a bit. So this week up until spring break is starting to look kind of busy. A lot of assignments due in Dalton's class plus the fact that she changed the midterm layout. So instead of having a take home test we are now having a closed book, in class exam. I'm not sure if that should be a relief or not. I'm sure that the take home test would take a lot longer, but we would also have our book at least. Well hopefully it won't be that bad. Also we have a test in Coleman's class today, which she has not yet posted...the only thing about that is I honestly haven't learned anything so I don't know what she's going to be tested on. We've maybe only had class like three times this semester. Anyways I'm just ready for spring break to be here already!

Best dogs in tha world!

Honestly I don't have much to talk about this week. I mainly didn't do anything since we had such bad weather last week. So I stayed inside as much as possible. So here recently I have really been wanting a dog. Sadly the apartments that I live in make you pay a pet fee of around 200 dollars plus they add an extra 25 onto our rent if we decide we want a pet. This is the main reason why I haven't already gotten one. Also my Dad would probably get pretty upset with me if I did get one. I'm thinking that maybe after I graduate I will start looking for one. So for now I will settle for my dogs that live with my parents. They are super cute and I don't have to take care of them unless I'm at home, so that's a plus.

About three years ago my lab that my siblings and I grew up with died. Her name was Swiss and she lived a long life of about 14 years, which is kinda long for a lab. After she died my parents SWORE they would never get another dog...well that definitely didn't happen. Anyways about six months after Swiss passed away we had a black lab puppy showed up at our door and this is how we came across Jake, who is our dog now! He isn't full lab. We think that maybe he has some Border Collie in him because the tips of his paws are white.

So we had him for about six months when my Dad brought home another dog that he had found near my Grandparent's house. So pretty much their plans of never getting anymore dogs fell apart. My Dad has a soft heart when it comes to animals. Our other dog's name is Sasha!!! And she is a mutt as well. My Dad is obsessed with both of them, especially Jake. Jake is the first dog he has ever had that can catch a frisbee and well were still working with Sasha, but she's kinda slow when she first takes off. So I figured I would share a video of Jake catching his frisbee! Hope you enjoy! :))))

The typical girl blog

I suppose I will write about my Valentine's Day. Let me just say that I am somewhat of a hopeless romantic when it comes to Valentines day. I love it. And it has nothing to do with guys giving me things, because the truth is that I don't think I've ever received a Valentine's gift from a guy besides for this year. My main love for Valentine's Day comes from my
family. They make me look forward to it every year. My Mother and Grandma own a florist in Elkin (my hometown) and not to sound bias, but they create the most beautiful flower arrangements. Every year they get one of their designers to make me and my sister one and of course they are perfect!!!! This year I specifically went down the mountain just so I could get them and bring them back up to put them in my room. My Father, who will always and forever be my best Valentine, normally give me a gift. One year he bought my sister and I these beautiful key necklaces and he normally gets us a box of chocolates. Also Saturday night I did have a Valentine. And he also got me roses and chocolate. He cooked me dinner, which he loves to do. It works out pretty well actually because I haven't reached that stage in my life where I've wanted to learn how to cook. Pretty much he did very well. One of the best Valentine's I've ever had!

THE SNOW!

As you all can see, the snow finally came!!! Last weekend I had been monitoring the weather channel and it looks like we are expecting even more throughout the week!!!! I get really excited about snow mainly because I love to play in it. Now my boyfriend is one of those people that love to "look" at snow...he doesn't like to mess it up or build snow families (haha), not even so much as have snowball fights. He loves to look at it...that's it. Pretty much he's lame. I, on the other hand, love to do it all! Last night Sydney (my roommate) and I went and attempted to play in the small area in front of our apartments with a sled I went out and bought. It's one of those cheap plastic sleds. So we took that and tried to find a hill worthy enough to use it on.  Now I know what you're thinking...that's a stupid comment because we live on a mountain so there are tons of worthy hills. Well not really. At least not around our apartment. So our sledding attempt was not very successful...mainly because I went down this small hill and cracked my sled. And now I have a large bruise on my hip. It was still fun though. Sadly it was not snowball worthy, because it was still powdery snow. Also I'm sure most of you have noticed that they cancelled all classes up to 11......so we still have to go to school. I was a little bummed out about that. But at least I'll do something productive today instead of just sitting at my apartment.

My first physics exam

Well on Friday, the 13th (of course it would be on this day), I had my first physics exam. Pretty much I had been dreading this since I first started this class this semester. Ivy and I had been freaking out everyday last week and predicted that it would be a horribly hard and torturing test. Well anyways he of course gave us homework that was due the class before, which was on a Wednesday, and promised that it would be a "short" homework assignment and to me it was not very short. Whatever. So back to our test. We walked into class and sat down...he handed us our test and I immediately flipped through the test. I have never felt so much joy over a test in my life!!!!! It wasn't bad at all!!!! There was only two problems that required math and the rest were pretty much fill in the blank and true/false. I was so thrilled! The only thing bad that happened was that I ran out of lead and so I didn't get to fill out as much extra credit as I would have liked. But that's fine at least this test didn't ruin my Friday!!!!! But this doesn't change the fact that I'm still not very fond of the lab....it still sucks...every Wednesday.

Shotgun Shooting!

So I have been dating this guy for about 7 months now his name is John and he is pretty great! He is the only man I have ever dated that cooks for me and he is actually really good at it! Anyways Sunday we went with his brother to one of their friend's house and rode four wheelers. Their friend has a ton of land and trails that you can ride on and it's right next to the Mitchell River. The land is very beautiful and our original plan was to go fishing and shoot skeet! Although Sunday was a beautiful day I believe that the water was still to cold to really have any success at catching fish. So after an hour of fishing we finally gave up and headed to an open field to shoot. Now I have shot several handguns with my dad, but I have never shot a shotgun. John and his brother are very good at shooting skeet so I was very intimidated to shoot it! They first set up still targets to get me use to shooting the gun and then after successfully shooting those I started in on shooting skeet. Surprisingly I did pretty good for a first timer!!! They threw about 10 skeet for me and I hit 6 of them!! It was so much fun!!! I would love to do it again. I think that my dad and I are going to go shoot his one day, which I'm really excited about because I love spending time with my dad! I strongly suggest that if you've never shot a shotgun or skeet that you do, because I'm sure you really really enjoy it! So Sunday was a pretty good day until I got back up the mountain and started to feel bad. I have been feeling bad since Friday, but I thought that maybe my body would take care of it by itself. Sadly I was mistaken and had to go to the infirmary today and was diagnosed with strep throat. Don't worry I will not be in class tomorrow to be giving it to any of you, because this truly sucks!

Car Complications....

So I got sick late last week and totally forgot about posting on here. I find it sometimes difficult to remember to post three times on different days each week, so I have to get use to it. So I have a Pontiac, which is a car. And about a year ago I hit 100,000 miles and that usually is when your car starts to have "complications". My dad bought me this car when I was sixteen and I consider to have kept it in pretty good shape for the last 6 years. I love my car and really don't want a new one. But since I've had a 100,000 miles on it my power steering has really given me trouble. I believe that this is the second time it has gone out and it is really difficult to drive especially going down the mountain because of all the curves. So Saturday I ended up having to take my car home so my dad could take it to be fixed. The bad part about all of this is that I'm having to drive my dad's truck. Now his truck  isn't just a little pickup truck it is very large and bright red! Honestly I don't really mind driving it because I feel like it goes down the mountain better than my car does. The main problem is parking! Sadly after six years of driving I still have trouble parking. Even in my car I have trouble parking, so just imagine how it is for me to park a humongous truck. My apartments already have really bad parking, but when I drive this truck I feel like I have to park really far away anyways to keep from hitting someone's car. Anyways I hope to have my car back either this weekend or the next and I won't have to deal with the struggle of parking.
On Friday my roommate and I went bowling!!! We went with her boyfriend and one of his friends. Well I haven't been bowling in like ten years so I was pretty terrible. It's funny because when we started our first game Brandon, who is my roommate's boyfriend's friend, and I were both equally bad. So therefore I didn't feel that horrible about sucking because someone else sucked just as bad as I did hahaha! But it turned out that he actually ended up beating all of us by a long shot! So basically I was the ultimate loser for the night!!! But overall I did have good time at least. We then ending up coming home and playing the guitar, which was awesome because my guitar came with an amp and I hadn't hooked it up until last week. The main reason for this is because I suck at playing the guitar as of right now and I figured there was no need to be loud and suck. But it ended up sounding really cool because you can set it up to where it sounds like an electric guitar! Anyways I hope that soon I will be decent enough to post a video of me playing my guitar, but it will probably be closer to the end of the semester!

Let it Snow

For the past month I have been extremely eager to see a lot of snow in Boone. Like the amount of snow we got last year right before Valentines Day. It was so fun just to go out and play in it with my roommate, Sydney. Also I would really love to try skiing again...and yes I know they have machines at the ski slopes that make and blow snow, but I think it would better after theres been a snow storm. Well since were on the subject I suppose I'll tell you about my skiing experience. So this year for my birthday, which was on January 11th, me and my best friend went to Beech Mountain. Her grandparents actually own a house that is within walking distance of the slopes, so it was very convenient. We brought some friends with us, so altogether there was about 10 of us. Now let me just mention that this was my first time EVER going skiing. I had no idea how to ski, but everyone told me that all I had to know was "Pizza and french fries." Let me just say that those words did not help me that much for the first 2 hours of skiing and after hearing them over 60 times in one day it makes you never want to hear those words again. May I also just add that I was the only person in this group that had never been skiing before. Rachel, my best friend, has skied pretty much her entire life, so she is pretty good and rarely falls the entire time. So she promised me that she would teach me and stay with me the entire time. Well for those of you that have been skiing and are actually good at it know that when you go to ski you actually want to ski and not have to wait on someone who is falling down every minute. So this is how it was for me for the first two hours of skiing and I had almost convinced myself by this time that I would never try skiing again. Thankfully I started to improve and could actually make it down the majority of the slopes without falling more than twice. So by the end of it I really enjoyed skiing and I would love to go again! Also I pretty much could not move for the next two days, because I literally felt like someone had beaten me. I had very large bruises all over my legs and arms. But the experience was totally worth the pain.

My guitar

For the past year I have really wanted to learn how to play the guitar. Well for Christmas my wonderful Grandma bought me a beautiful black guitar!!! I was really excited about it! So for the past   month and a half I have been trying to teach myself how to play guitar with a little help from my sister and her boyfriend. My sister has been playing guitar for about five years now and Aaron has been playing since he was ten. Anyways so Saturday I went to visit them and had pretty much been practicing all day. Well one of Aaron's good friend came over later that night and he too can play the guitar. Let me just say that this guy is AMAZINGLY good at guitar!!!! Like I'm not talking about just casual strumming I'm talking about fantastic picking! I just hope that one day I will be able to at least be half as good as he is!

Monday, January 26, 2015

So this semester I am taking Physics: Sounds and Recording and not to complain too much, but I must say that so far it is really putting an inconvenience on my LIFE!!!! The actual class is not that bad in fact it is quite interesting! The main problem is the lab, which pretty much makes me dread Wednesdays. The reason that these labs are so annoying and so irritating is that the they are really long and we don't have enough time to finish!!!!! Our first lab we were far from finished and had to turn in an incomplete lab report...well the teacher also informed us that "we shouldn't worry" and that she would take it easy on us for the first lab since it was in fact our first lab and we had no idea what we were doing!!!!! But when we got our grades back last week, Ivy (my lab partner) and I received a 84. Now I know that doesn't seem too bad, but then again it is our first lab grade for the semester. We also didn't finish our second lab and had to turn it in incomplete. This makes me wonder...is this going to be a reoccurring problem?!?!? Anyways I hope that our teacher picks up on how many people are struggling to finish their labs each week and at least consider shortening our labs or letting us take them home and writing up our lab reports there.
